Fairview defensive end Jordan Kerner has become the second Keystone State prospect in this 2011 recruiting class to verbally commit to Penn State.
Kerner, a 6’5, 230-pound senior-to-be, announced his commitment to Penn State today, according to Scout.com. Kerner had seven total scholarship offers including the offer from the Nittany Lions – Boston College, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Rutgers and West Virginia.
Northwestern and Purdue expressed interest, but did not extend scholarship offers to Kerner.
The Fairview Tigers did not submit individual defensive statistics for the 2009 season to Maxpreps.com. Kerner was part of a Tigers’ defense that allowed an average of nearly 15.1 points per game, holding five opponents to eight points or less, with one shutout.
Kerner also finished as the Tigers’ third-leading rusher, amassing 246 yards and four touchdowns.
Sharon narrowly eliminated Fairview in the District 10 “AA” quarterfinals, 18-17. Sharon also knocked Fairview out of the 2008 District 10 “AA” playoffs at the same juncture, 35-7.
