Young and inexperienced at this time a year ago, Aliquippa probably didn’t figure it would finish the 2009 season with an 11-2 overall record and earn a berth in the WPIAL AA championship game against Greensburg Central Catholic.  Yet, there the Quips were come the end of November, battling till the end in a 33-7 loss.  While the red and black lost returning athlete Troy Jeter for the season with an injury, plenty of other notable athletes remain.  Junior QB Mikal Hall threw for 1,045 yards and eight touchdowns last season.  Leading rusher Darius Walker, a senior this season, ran for a team-best 649 yards.  Featured WR Haetaun Mathis (19 rec., 381 yards) also returns.  Aliquippa gained a valuable transfer in the offseason when senior OL Zach Hooks (290 pounds, potential Division-1 prospect) moved in from Charleroi.  The Quips have posted an overall record of 50-11 since 2005 (.819).  And since 1999, Aliqippa is 119-20 overall (.856).
