The University of Pittsburgh has landed its first WPIAL recruit in its 2012 recruiting class.
Marzett Geter, a 5’8, 165-pound wide receiver/defensive back at Sto-Rox High School, has issued an oral declaration to Pitt, according to national recruiting services Scout.com and Rivals.com. Rivals first reported Geter’s choice of Pitt June 8. Scout confirmed the commitment this weekend.
It had been reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Geter had declared Pitt was his choice but also that he wanted to look at other programs to make certain he was making the right decision.
Pitt was the only program to extend an offer to Geter, but that doesn’t mean the Vikings’ senior-to-be only received interest from Pitt. Programs like Akron, Connecticut, Eastern Michigan, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Toledo, West Virginia and Wisconsin also had shown interest in Geter, but did not extend a verbal scholarship offer.
One of two 500-yard receiving targets in a Vikings’ aerial assault which averaged 137 yards per game a year ago (four-star LB Deaysean Rippy, who also plays TE on offense for Sto-Rox, was the other), Geter hauled in 23 passes for 523 yards for the Vikes, averaging 22.7 yards per reception. In his sophomore season, Geter hauled in 20 passes for 382 yards and six touchdowns. Geter is just 95 yards shy of 1,000 receiving yards for his career.
Geter was recruited as a cornerback.
Sto-Rox went 7-3 last season, averaging 27.6 points per game before falling in the opening round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs to Pittsburgh North Catholic.
