Guy Montecalvo retires as head football coach at Canon-McMillan
Written by: Josh Funk on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010This according to Mike White of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette - longtime WPIAL football coach Guy Montecalvo retired after serving as head coach at Washington and Canon-McMillan high schools for a combined 30 years. Â White reported Montecalvo spent 23 years at Washington and the last seven years at Canon-Mac, posting a career record of 225-107-2.
Montecalvo won WPIAL “AA” championships at Washington in 1993 and 2001, including the 2001 “AA” state championship, 19-12, over District 11 champion Pen Argyl. Â The ’01 Prexie team set (and still owns) the Washington County record for points scored in a single season, with 612, the seventh-highest single season scoring output in WPIAL history.
The Prexies reached the WPIAL “AA” championship game in 1990, 1995, 1998 and 1999 under Montecalvo’s lead.
