The Game: Central Dauphin (3 AAAA) @ State College (6 AAAA)

Date: Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, from Memorial Stadium in downtown State College

2008 Record: Central Dauphin (2-0), State College (2-0)

About Central Dauphin: The Rams haven’t exactly rolled to their 2-0 start, defeating rival CD East 17-7 and narrowly defeating Harrisburg 14-11.  CD averages a mere 15.5 points per contest, but only allows nine points per game defensively.

Offensively, the Rams have only scored three touchdowns, and they have all come courtesy of running back Justin Shirk, who has totaled 279 rushing yards on 51 attempts, good enough for an average of just under 5.5 yards per rush.  Kyle Wolfe adds 10 carries for 67 yards to the Ram ground attack, which, through two games, averages 4.8 yards per rush and 168 yards per game.

CD’s passing attack is paced by Tyler Thompson’s 177 yards on 14 completions.  Shirk has added 57 pass yards on four attempts for a Ram pass attack which averages 117 yards per game.  Kyle Jackson serves as the Ram’s leading receiver, with 13 receptions for 169 yards.

Shirk leads the way defensively with 20 tackles (11 solo), and Pitt commit Jack Lippert has seven tackles and a sack.

About State College: Once again, the Little Lions are all about the running game.  Five different running backs have over 55 rushing yards this season.  The ground game is paced by James Avedesian’s 25 rushes for 112 yards and two touchdowns.  Rob Stupar (12, 98, 1), Bernard Smack (6, 66), Logan Belinda (7, 63), and Alex Kenney (12, 56) also contribute to SC’s ground game which averages 6.13 yards per carry and 236 yards per game.

Avedesian is the Lions’ quarterback, and he’s thrown for 166 yards and two scores while completing 10 of his 17 passes.

The Little Lions average 333 yards and 27 points per game.
