South Fayette senior quarterback Christian Brumbaugh can now count himself among a select group of WPIAL quarterbacks.
The Lions’ field general surpassed 5,000 career passing yards in 8-0 South Fayette’s 42-35 victory over Seton-LaSalle (7-1) Thursday evening at Chartiers Valley High School.
Chris Harlan of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Brumbaugh finished the shootout completing 16-of-26 passes for 237 yards. That gives Brumbaugh 5,160 passing yards and 58 touchdowns for his career – 1,801 yards and 23 touchdowns this season alone.
Brumbaugh is the 16th WPIAL quarterback to throw for more than 5,000 yards, and he currently ranks 14th in league history, 28 yards beyond former West Shamokin field general Trevor Henderson (5,132 yards, 2001-’04). Up next on the list is former Upper St. Clair quarterback Mac McArdle (5,334 yards, 1995-’97).
In terms of South Fayette history, Brumbaugh is the third 5,000-yard passer in school history, joining Neil Loebig (5,553 yards, 1997-’99) and Andrew DiDonato (6,573 yards, 2002-’05). South Fayette joins a list of five other PIAA representatives (Harrisburg Bishop McDevitt, LaSalle College, Mount Carmel Area, Bangor Pius X and Conestoga Valley) with at least three 5,000-yard passing quarterbacks.
