Small School Player of the Year: Christian Brumbaugh, South FayetteWritten by: David Mika on Tuesday, December 28th, 2010
Even if the season didn’t end how he or the South Fayette Lions would have hoped, Christian Brumbaugh certainly had a season that will be remembered for many years to come.
Brumbaugh threw for 3,726 yards (the second-highest single season total in state history) and a state single-season record 52 touchdowns. He was the ringleader of a South Fayette football team that scored a school record 645 points (40.3 points per game average).
Brumbaugh finished his career with 7,162 passing yards (10th in state history) and 88 career touchdown passes (6th in state history, WPIAL career record). In the past two seasons, Brumbaugh’s record as a varsity starting quarterback was 25-2, with the two losses coming to Aliquippa (2009) and West Catholic. A commit to the College of William & Mary, Brumbaugh goes down as one of the most proficient passers in WPIAL history.
