Small School Coach Of The Year: Tom Nola, Clairton

Written by: on Monday, December 27th, 2010

Clairton didn’t have to face much adversity during its run to a third consecutive appearance in the PIAA finals, but that all changed when Riverside jumped to a 24-0 lead just 14 minutes into the contest. Nola became the 11th coach in Pennsylvania to guide his team to a perfect 16-0 record since the 2004 season, and the seventh-such program from the WPIAL in that span. Nola and the Bears have won 46 of their last 48 games, including three consecutive WPIAL championships and three consecutive PIAA Class A Western Finals over Farrell. Nola is the fourth WPIAL high school football coach to win consecutive PIAA titles, joining Farrell’s Lou Falconi, Rochester’s Gene Matsook and Thomas Jefferson’s Bill Cherpak.
