The Game: Plum (7 AAAA) @ Franklin Regional (7 AAA)
Date: Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, from Franklin Regional HS in Murrysville
2008 Record: Plum (0-3), Franklin Regional (2-1)
About Plum: The Mustangs haven’t had many positives this season, nor have they fared well against the Greater Allegheny Conference. Plum was defeated 28-7 in Week 1 by the upstart Indiana Little Indians, a running-oriented football team off to a 3-0 start.
Plum has been outscored this season 107-7, and allows an average of 35 points per game. But it could be worse – Plum’s 107 points allowed pale in comparison to the 168 points allowed through three games by Connellsville (56 ppg.) or District 9’s Union-Rimersburg, which has allowed 157 points (52.3 ppg.).
About Franklin Regional: The Panthers’ offense, particularly leading rusher Chad Bowman, came up short in a 24-19 loss to Fox Chapel last week. Bowman, who has run for 327 yards and four touchdowns, was limited to 10 carries for 23 yards and one score. That performance came one week after a 250-yard, three-touchdown performance. Bowman isn’t just a one-man show. Josh Roger (20 rushes, 185 yards, TD) and Jesse Samek (21, 133, 3) also contribute to the navy blue and gold’s ground attack.
Quarterback Anthony Vendemia has completed half of his pass attempts for 335 yards and four scores.
DJ Capezutto is Vendemia’s favorite target, catching six passes for 189 yards and three scores. Preston Jones adds five catches for 80 yards.
