After Monday night’s school board meeting, Norwin High School has a new football coach.
Art Tragesser, the former head coach of Jeannette and Penn-Trafford High Schools, was named the new head coach at Norwin. Tragesser was an assistant at Greater Latrobe this past season under Ray Reitz.
Tragesser replaces Dan Conwell.
Mike White of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Tragesser coached at Jeannette from 1985-’95 and at Penn-Trafford from 1996-2008. In that span of 24 years, his teams made 19 WPIAL playoff appearances. Tragesser has a WPIAL playoff record of 10-19 as a head coach.
Tragesser won 156 games and guided both Jeannette and Penn-Trafford to a WPIAL championship game. Jeannette lost the 1994 “AA” final to New Brighton, 35-6, and Penn-Trafford fell in the 1997 “AAAA” final to Upper St. Clair, 28-27.
Reached for comment Monday evening, Reitz said that Tragesser has “great experience.” Reitz said he coached under Tragesser for nine years at Jeannette, coaching the offensive and defensive lines.
